An interesting gilt and chased bronze inkwell, decorated with a winged cupid holding an urn serving as an inkwell, complete with a glass, and carrying on his back a quiver fitted with an hourglass. He sits on an oval mother-of-pearl base, engraved with flowers and foliage, with four pen holders. The gilt bronze rim of the base is finely chased with twisted fluting and floral motifs. The inkwell rests on four ball feet. The hourglass is removable. There is a crack in the mother-of-pearl base and a chip in the glass. Charles X period, circa 1820.
