Magnificent Bargueno, 17th-century Spanish cabinet in walnut on its teak, chest of drawers. The unit is divided into two superimposable parts. The upper part, known as the Bargueno, has two side handles and openwork wrought-iron decoration in geometric shapes. It is closed by a rich double hasp lock featuring four towers and pomegranates. The bargueno opens with a flap revealing a series of architectural drawers and compartments. It features pediments, entablatures and twisted columns in fine wood and back marquetry. It rests on the lower part, a taquillon, a chest of drawers opening with two drawers and two doors. Two pulls decorated with scallops hold the Bargueno flap. The taquillon is decorated with diamond motifs carved into the wood, rosettes inlaid on the back, and wrought-iron details. Each compartment closes with an openwork wrought-iron lock featuring a shell motif.

This set is typical of 17th-century Spanish cabinets, with their imposing, richly decorated appearance. This antique piece of furniture was used as a portable writing desk, a storage unit for administrative documents and a cabinet of curiosities for precious objects. Baroque in style, this bargueno is based on the surprise element of architectural inlaid drawers concealed beneath a sober panel.
