PAIR OF ALABASTER AND GILT BRONZE COVERED VASES, EARLY 19TH CENTURY
A pair of early 19th century alabaster baluster-shaped covered vases carved with foliage and gilt bronze. The body shows agricultural trophies with a sickle, a shovel, a vase overflowing with flowers and a cornucopia, all held together by a ribbon bow and underlined by gilded fillets. They are adorned with two scrolled handles ending in rosettes. Each vase rests on a ringed foot decorated with water leaves and a square pedestal with a lyre inscribed in a crown of flowers. The base is finished with a frieze of hearts. The removable lids are topped with pincones. The beautiful colour of the alabaster gives the ensemble a great elegance and highlights the bronze work particularly well.
