3-LEAF FOLDING SCREEN DECORATED WITH A LANDSCAPE OF WASHERWOMEN, ART DECO PERIOD

Three-leaf curved wooden screen, painted with an ochre mountain landscape on a gold background, with two women washing clothes by a river in the foreground. French work from the 1930s. In very good condition, with some light wear in the lower part, on the slats. The gilding is in very good original condition. The screen, whose distant ancestor served as a bedroom lining in the 18th century, was designed to shelter chilly people from the wind. In the twentieth century, its decorative function seems to outweigh its utilitarian purpose. Decorative architects such as Eileen Gray (1878-1976) and Jean Dunand (1877-1942) used them to reorganize space in apartments with modern comforts. Once the work of a carpenter and upholsterer, the folding screen is now an individual artistic expression, the work of an artist-decorator. Art Deco period, Circa: 1930 Dim: W:135cm, D:3cm, H:168cm.
