Bjorn Wiinblad (Denmark, 1918 - 2006) was a Danish painter, ceramist and designer, whose work was widely distributed in Europe and the United States in 1954, and in Japan, Australia and Canada in 1968. Bjorn Wiinblad has worked in a variety of disciplines, including textiles, glass and silverware, but he is best known for his ceramics. Bjorn Wiinblad studied first at Copenhagen Polytechnic and then at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts from 1940 to 1943. He then worked as a ceramist under Lars Syberg in Taastrup, before being hired as a designer at the Nymolle earthenware factory. From 1957 onwards, Bjorn Wiinblad designed numerous ceramics for Rosenthal, characterized by exuberance and colorful, poetic motifs. His style can be described as a hybrid of the ancient and the modern, with influences that are both medieval and Byzantine, while retaining a very Scandinavian spirit.
