THEODORE GECHTER (1796-1844): "AMAZONE BLESSEE" BRONZE GROUP

sold
Current stock : 0

Shaded brown patina bronze group depicting a wounded Amazon, fallen from her horse. Still carrying her quiver of arrows, she is in a highly sensual position. This suggestive image of a nude woman with generous curves, ostentatiously exposed to all eyes, spans the second half of the 19th century. It recalls Auguste Clésinger's "Femme piquée par un serpent" (1847) (Musée d'Orsay) and Alexandre Schoenewerk's "Jeune Tarentine" (1871) (Musée d'Orsay). Early edition cast signed in relief: "T. GECHTER". Louis-Philippe period, Circa: 1840 Dim: W:38cm, D:18cm, H:29cm. This bronze is of the highest quality and in very good condition. The fine chasing and carefully treated details are characteristic of this Romantic sculptor, who was particularly fond of this kind of lively composition.
