Large giltwood Rocaille mirror in Louis XV style, decorated with plant motifs of acanthus leaves, climbing ivy, flowers and shells. The large scrolls at the corners allow for mirror inlays making the composition of this rococo mirror very moving. The Louis XV style, also called Rococo style, is inspired by the Italian Baroque and the "rocaille" motifs crafted of bronze and earthenware in the early 18th century. The Rocaille style, with its elegant and refined curves, developed between 1730 and 1760. During this period, ornamentalists favored curved lines and moving motifs.
