Bust of a young woman in Carrara marble, 19th century

Art Nouveau sculpture carved directly from Carrara white marble, depicting the portrait of a smiling young woman. The sculptor uses an ingenious technique to bring the face to life, allowing the figure to emerge from the block of marble. The high-relief sculpture emphasizes the contrast between the raw material on one side and the softness of the woman's face framed by beautiful flowing hair. A very fine, unsigned work from the late 19th century. Circa 1890.
