Abstract iron sculpture on a square base by Fernand Rolland (born in 1920). Fernand Rolland was born in Auxerre on February 17, 1920. After the Second World War, he moved into the outbuildings of the Château du Tremblay, his family's former country residence. Following brief studies in visual arts and a career as a civil servant, postman, farm laborer, and poultry merchant, he eventually strove to make a living from his writing and painting. In 1956, Jean-Louis Vetter joined him at Tremblay. The sculptor and painter then devoted all their energy to introducing contemporary art to a wider audience than the handful of enthusiasts who were interested in it at the time. Fernand Rolland left behind an eclectic body of work ranging from poetry to vibrantly colored collage paintings. He donated his works to the Yonne General Council, and some are on display at the Tremblay Regional Contemporary Art Center. Period 20th century, Circa: Dim: L:17cm, D:17cm, H:76.5cm.
