The sculpture is made of alabaster and marble . The young child, also in alabaster, wearing a short, open shirt, has fallen asleep with his legs crossed. His long hair forms a curl at his left ear. He uses a book, on which the first four letters of the alphabet can be read, as a pillow, straddling the back of the bench. The bench, made of pink marble, is finely carved with floral and plant motifs. The connecting blocks are adorned with lion heads. This figure rests on a rectangular base.
