gilt and chased Art Nouveau bronze clock with foliate decoration. The frame depicts a reclining nude woman within a leaf and a child holding a flower. The circular enamel dial indicates the hours in Arabic numerals and is adorned with whiplash-shaped floral motifs. The back is decorated with an openwork rosette. The clock face is signed AD Mougin . It is numbered 3576.
Adolphe Mougin (1848-1928) was a French clockmaker who received various medals at the Universal Exhibitions in Paris between 1889 and 1900. He worked on eclectic clocks imitating styles of the past before developing Art Nouveau works that were very popular around 1900. Art Nouveau is an artistic movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries characterized by curved lines inspired by plants.
