A gilt and chased bronze ornamental cup depicting Aurora dispelling the darkness, a torch in her hand. In Roman mythology, Aurora is the goddess of dawn and sister of the Sun. Every morning, she sets out on her chariot to bring light to the gods and mortals. Here, she is adorned with jewels and wears a dress that reveals her breasts. The cup symbolizes the chariot of the Sun, to which a small Cupid clings. The presence of Cupid refers to Aurora's love for Cephalus, who reciprocates her feelings thanks to Cupid's intervention. The cup features a dynamic decoration of fluting, flowering branches, and scrolls. It rests on a foot decorated with interlacing floral motifs and a marble base. 19th century, circa 1880. Dimensions: L: 18cm, D: 38cm, H: 47cm. In very good overall condition. Two restored cracks on the marble base.
