A very large white porcelain biscuit porcelain figure, signed on the base "Lecorney" and bearing the impressed mark "EB Paris," depicting an elegant, three-dimensional figure of a young woman draped in classical style, collecting water in a bowl near a fountain adorned with a mascaron and a stylized dolphin. The treatment of the face, the fluidity of the garment, and the naturalness of the gesture attest to the quality of the modeling.
Nicolas Lecorney, sometimes referred to as Nicolas Lecornet, was a French sculptor active between 1880 and 1884. Born in Gourgeon (Haute-Saône), his work includes allegories, nymphs, and figures of children and young girls. He exhibited at the Salon between 1880 and 1884. Among his notable works are "En Pénitence" (In Penitence), a bronze sculpture depicting the bust of a young boy wearing a dunce cap, as well as "Le Baiser de l'enfant" (The Child's Kiss) and "Espagnol à la guitare" (Spanishman with a Guitar).
