Statuette in Porcelain Bisque from the Rudolstadt-Volkstedt factory representing Psyche, sitting on a rock, as a little girl hiding the bow of Love. Her hair is up in a bun. The deep-set eyes show Etienne-Maurice Falconnet's ingenuity in giving life to his figures. The subject rests on a three-legged pedestal underlined by garlands of flowers and friezes of gilded bronze leaves. The figure is marked under the foot and numbered 1298.
This model was created by Etienne-Maurice Falconet (1716-1791) in 1761 for Mme de Pompadour, who owned a counterpart called "L'Amour Menaçant" (1757). This representation of the myth of Amour et Pysché was a great success in the 18th and 19th centuries.
