A striking multi-purpose box made of wallpaper and mother-of-pearl, dating from the second half of the 19th century, lavishly decorated with polychrome floral motifs and gold. Two oval medallions adorned with bouquets of flowers, scrolls, and imitation gemstones decorate the front of the box, while a rectangular medallion with canted corners enlivens the top of the lid. It opens with two side doors. The interior reveals a central niche flanked by eight drawers, the bottom of which is a writing surface. This surface comprises a wide receptacle for pens and a fold-down writing tablet, lined with purple velvet and edged with gold scrolls, which, when unfolded, can serve as a writing table. The reverse side of the tablet is also decorated with polychrome floral bouquets on a black background.
