Bronze sculpture with a medal patina depicting Diana the Huntress after Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828). In Roman mythology, Diana is the goddess of the hunt and the night, identified with Artemis in Greek mythology. She is depicted wearing a tunic and a crescent moon halo. Our bronze bears Houdon's signature on the base: "HOUDON sculp."
Jean-Antoine Houdon , passionate about the art of casting, himself produced two large bronzes of Diana at the Roule workshops in Paris, one in 1782 (San Marino, California), the other in 1790 (Paris, Louvre Museum).
