A beautiful patinated bronze statue of Diana the Huntress, also known as the Nymph of Diana, after the work of Lucie Signoret-Ledieu . It depicts the goddess seated on a tree trunk, holding her bow in one hand and waving a trumpet-shaped flower in the other to a sea monster at her feet. Her quiver rests against the tree trunk. This piece is signed "Mme Signoret Ledieu" on the base and bears the foundry mark AB. The sculpture rests on a rotating bronze plinth with a cartouche bearing the title of the work, the name of the artist, and the inscription "awarded a prize at the Salon."
Lucie Signoret-Ledieu (1858-1904) was a French artist and student of Jean Gautherin. She exhibited plaster figures at the Salon from 1878 onwards. She particularly favored graceful compositions, and her Diana the Huntress was a great success under the name Nymph of Diana at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1889, winning a prize.
