A bronze statue with a brown patina depicting " Disappointed Hope " after Auguste-Marie Barreau (?-1922). Hope is shown standing, her arms crossed under her breast and her head bowed in disappointment. She is dressed in an antique-style tunic. The allegorical figure probably represents Dido, founder and queen of Carthage. In love with Aeneas, she committed suicide in despair after being abandoned by the Trojan hero, on the orders of Jupiter. Signed in relief on the base: "BARREAU". Inscriptions on the sides of the base: "Gold Medal at the Fine Arts Exhibition 1865" (sic) and "Purchased by the State".
