Allegorical bronze sculpture with a beautiful golden-brown patina depicting "The Thinker" by Émile-Louis Picault (1833-1915). The young man sits on a rock with an eagle and holds a book inscribed: "It is on the high peaks that the thinker meditates." Titled and signed on the base. An early cast with the stamp of the Syndicate of Manufacturers of Plain Bronzes, and the mark "BD Vrai Bronze Paris" impressed on the reverse. The bronze rests on a sea-green marble plinth. Height without the marble: 60.5 cm. 19th century, circa 1880. Dimensions: W: 24 cm, D: 25 cm, H: 66 cm. In good overall condition, the marble with minor chips.
