White marble bust depicting a bare-breasted woman. The young woman looks to her left and smiles. Her hair is styled in two braids gathered up and a chignon, while the rest falls over her shoulder. This statue represents the allegory of Victory, as she wears a laurel wreath adorned with a reed on her right side. In antiquity, such female figures brought victory to the victors of wars or games. In the 19th century, the allegory of Victory regained prominence after the discovery of the Winged Victory of Samothrace in 1863, which was exhibited at the Louvre around 1880. 19th century, circa 1880.
