Bust of Madame Récamier Carrara marble after the Neoclassical sculptor Joseph Chinard (Lyon, 1756-1813). Married to a wealthy banker at the age of 16, Juliette Récamier (1777-1849), a woman of wit, entertained the greatest celebrities of the political, literary, and artistic worlds at her home from the Directory period until the July Monarchy. Her salon was one of the most prestigious in Paris. In addition to her wit, she was also celebrated for her beauty. Nicknamed "the most beautiful of the beautiful," Juliette Récamier fascinated many artists, who painted her portrait.
