A gilt and patinated bronze clock, known as a "cathedral clock," depicts a woman in a long gown seated beneath the portal of a cathedral, incorporating the Neo-Gothic vocabulary of pointed arches, scrolling foliage, polylobed motifs, and pinnacles. Four columns with vegetal capitals support the vault, which encloses the finely chased dial with its rosette. The dial consists of twelve cartouches indicating the hours in Roman numerals. The seated lady, wearing a brow tiara, a crown of flowers, and a pearl necklace suspending a cross, pensively plucks the petals from a daisy. Behind her, a beautiful pendulum echoes the Neo-Gothic ornamentation. The entire piece rests on a stepped base, decorated with openwork festoons, raised on four feet carved with pointed arch motifs. The movement is in working order and features a Broccot suspension.
French work from the first half of the 19th century.
