Precious rectangular sewing box in "leaf" rosewood veneer. Uncovered, it features a braided mirror on the reverse of the lid. This charming sewing set, trimmed in moire and pink velvet, comprises two small square porcelain flasks with polychrome openwork bindweed motifs, marked "L" on the underside, and a removable rectangular pad holding two finely chased gilded thread spools with a central cartouche-shaped chased grip, overhung by a knob. A central tray on a raised base houses five sewing items: a gold thimble and needle case, both hallmarked "BL" (8g) and finely chased, a silver passe-lacet, a gold-mounted punch and a pair of small embroidery scissors. The various tools are engraved by the master silversmith VD (1819-1838). This early 19th century sewing box closes with a small key. Circa: 1830
Condition report: Good condition. The mirror has a few scratches and a small chisel point. The key is original.
