A striking lamp composed of a round white wooden ceiling rose from which metal chains hang discs forming two superimposed spheres. From these spheres hang clusters of mother-of-pearl pellets, linked by small rings. The light is provided by two bulbs completely concealed by the curtains of pellets. Designed in the 1960s by Verner Panton, the FUN collection remains remarkably relevant nearly 50 years later. In creating this model, the renowned Danish designer innovated with its vibrant pop design, the use of new light-reflecting materials such as mother-of-pearl and metal, and the creation of a fluid light fixture that, under the influence of the heat emitted by the bulb and its thermal radiation, oscillates gracefully. From the late 1950s onward, Verner Panton (1926–1998) infused the foundations of Scandinavian design with a futuristic spirit. He initially trained as an architectural engineer before studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. From 1950 to 1952, he collaborated with Arne Jacobsen. His first chair, the Bachelor Chair, was produced by the furniture manufacturer Fritz Hansen in 1955. However, his designs quickly became less conventional, and Verner Panton brought boldness and humor to his work, which has since become iconic in contemporary Danish and international design: the geometric Cone Chair (1958), the legendary Panton Chair (1967), the first chair made of injection-molded plastic, and the Amoebe armchair (1970), without legs. Verner Panton also distinguished himself in the creation of lighting fixtures such as the Moon Lamp (1960, Vitra), Panthella (1971, Louis Poulsen), and Pantop (1980, reissued by Verpan). In the 1970s, Verner Panton temporarily abandoned furniture design to focus on interior design. Today, most of his creations are reissued by Vitra, which dedicated a retrospective to him in 2000 at the Vitra Design Museum in Germany. His lighting fixtures are still produced by Louis Poulsen. 20th century, circa 1965. Dimensions: W: 55cm, D: 55cm, H: 200cm.
