Peacock or " Emmanuelle armchair , flared back and a "tam-tam" shaped seat. The back features an openwork peacock feather motif. The seat is covered with a circular cushion in gray fabric.
Originally, this type of chair was called Pomare, after the last dynasty of Tahitian kings. It was a throne used for ceremonial purposes on the island from 1743 onwards. Legend has it that Pomare V's nephew, Prince Hinoï, died in one of these chairs. In 1974, in the erotic film Emmanuelle, directed by Just Jaeckin, Sylvia Kristel posed seductively in one of these chairs, giving it its new name. The object then became a symbol of desire and sensuality. This chair, with its highly recognizable profile, is the result of long and painstaking work by artisans.
