A gilt bronze centerpiece, either an incense burner or potpourri holder, adorned with antique masks flanked by griffins, rests on a chiseled pedestal with a cross-hatched design. The base is rectangular, decorated on its two main faces with bas-reliefs depicting four figures conversing in a landscape. The domed lid is decorated with palmettes, honeysuckle, scrolling foliage, and openwork floral and star motifs. Two winged putti, forming the handles, play trumpets and sit atop the incense-filled cup. The whole rests on four massive claw feet, adorned with foliage and raised on a black veined marble plinth.
