Large Empire-style hot air balloon chandelier with pendants and a gilt bronze frame with palmettes. It is illuminated in the lower section by eight lights and four additional ones in the upper crown.
The name "Montgolfière chandelier" obviously refers to the Montgolfier brothers who, in 1883, flew a very large heated balloon to an altitude of 400 meters, thus achieving the first human flight. This invention made such a mark on the Louis XVI era that it was adopted in the decorative arts and can be found on chair backs, clocks, or, as seen here, the famous chandelier, whose shape is inverted. This form reached its peak during the Empire period but was also revived throughout the 19th century.
Condition report: In very good condition. Re-electrified. The chandelier has been meticulously disassembled, cleaned, and the crystals reattached with a beautiful gilding of the bronze frame.
