A fan-shaped fire screen in chased and gilded brass and bronze. The central panel is decorated with a woman's face surrounded by olive branches, passementerie, and interlacing acanthus leaves. The screen is surmounted by a flame, a reference to its function of protecting against the heat of fire. The eight openwork brass panels of this fire screen unfurl like peacock feathers. It can also be closed by folding the panels and securing them with chains, saving space when not in use. It rests on four scroll-shaped feet.
