A small, milky-white opaline bottle with ball stopper. A crown of anemones and forget-me-nots painted in gold and dark blue decorates the rim of the body. This floral motif is framed by gold fillets that also accentuate the neck and stopper, the latter crowned with petals. This extremely fine decoration was executed by the workshop of Jean-Baptiste Desvignes, a painter and gilder of glass, crystal and porcelain, who became famous for his technique of painting opal crystal with gold or silver leaf and purely vegetable colors. The pieces from his workshop are characterized by the use of matte tones of dark blue and red, with a predilection for golden surfaces that dominate in the form of finely drawn palmettes, florets and garlands. Circa: 1820
