A very fine gilt and chased bronze clock with its globe, depicting Cupid leaning against a pedestal housing the movement, which is very finely chased with wreaths, laurel branches, and floral scrolls. The dial, decorated with floral friezes on a matte background and Roman numerals for the hours, is signed CHAUVEL A NANTES. It supports a floral basin and the torch, a symbol of love. To the left of the dial are the bow and quiver. The whole rests on a stepped rectangular base decorated with torches linked by floral garlands and butterflies, a symbol of Psyche. It is raised on four feet adorned with flowers and palmettes. The iconography of this clock refers to the theme of Cupid and Psyche, very popular during the Restoration period. Restoration period, circa 1820. Dimensions: W: 26cm, D: 10cm, H: 34cm. The wire-driven movement has been serviced and is in working order.
