A gilt and patinated bronze fountain-shaped mantel clock, adorned with a niche containing a mascaron (probably a river god) and a shell. It features a mechanism simulating a jet of water from the mascaron's mouth, which is represented by a twisted crystal stem. The fountain is flanked by two columns with Corinthian capitals supporting a floral entablature. Above, the dial with Roman numerals for the hours, exquisitely chased with flowers and fluting, is framed by reeds and various foliage. It is supported by two swans, a decorative motif emblematic of the Empire style. The whole rests on a base decorated with palmettes and four feet, the front ones adorned with scrolls and florets. The wire-driven movement has been cleaned, serviced, and is in working order. Empire period, circa 1810. Dimensions: W: 19cm, D: 13cm, H: 37.5cm.
