Very large gourd vase from the Sèvres National Porcelain Manufactory. Hard-paste porcelain decorated in gold with water lily leaves and butterflies on a nuanced midnight blue ground. Neck and base highlighted with a gilt border. Green triangular stamp dated 1902.
The term "colocynth vase" refers to its unique shape, inspired by vegetables of the cucurbit family, which are not edible but often used as decorative gourds.
Condition report: Very good condition. Slight wear to the gilding on the collar.
