A large chandelier with eight arms of light made of translucent Murano spun glass inlaid with gold. The chandelier is decorated with flowers, foliage, rings and pendants of various shapes. The cup has flowers with individual petals in guilloche glass and the arms are shaped like stacked trumpet flowers. The luminaire is finished with a large round flower. This Venetian production perfectly illustrates the craftsmanship of the Murano glassmakers, particularly in the hand-drawn and hand-turned denticulated leaves.
The tradition of Murano glass dates back to the late 13th century, when Venice isolated glassmakers on the island of Murano to prevent fires. All pieces are handmade by master glassmakers following ancient traditions. Murano glass is one of the finest in the world, particularly in its use of fused gold and silver flakes.
