LARGE PAINTED DECORATIVE PANEL, EXOTIC SCENE, SIGNED LOWER RIGHT: J. HUBERT

Large-format decorative panel painted on canvas laid on panel, depicting an exotic scene in the style of 19th-century panoramas. In the foreground, several figures are set in a lagoon-side landscape planted with tropical vegetation: palms, banana trees and flowering trees. A sailing pirogue glides over the calm waters, while the background opens onto a view of bluish mountains. The whole is treated in a palette of light, harmonious tones, blending decorative flat tones and stylized details.

The panel is part of the decorative tradition of the large-scale painted decors produced for elegant interiors and public places in the first half of the 20th century, in a style reminiscent of the panoramas produced by Zuber or the exotic decors in vogue in the 1930s-1950s.

Condition: very good overall. Vivid, well-preserved colors. Some minor wear and tear at the edges, but no alteration to the scene.
