Charles X period pedestal table in burr maple veneer. It rests on four columns with braces. Decorated with gilded bronzes. A frieze of shells and hearts on the legs, a fall of palmettes on the uprights and four masks of theatrical tragedy surrounded by acanthus leaves on the belt. The whole is covered with an emerald-green marble top.
Charles X furniture is elegant, light and easy to handle. They are generally sober in form, with structures softened from those of the Empire. Small tables like this one are placed close to a variety of seats to promote comfort. Craftsmen of the period were highly skilled in the technique of wood veneering, choosing light-colored materials to bring out the beauty of the furniture.
