Large patinated bronze sculpture depicting a winged man seated on a cloud, raising his arm. At his feet, an open book reveals the names of great philosophers and writers such as Plato, Virgil, Racine, Corneille, and Lamartine, as well as a dedication to Mr. Renaudot, Chief Engineer of the PIM Company. This allegorical statue features a cartouche with the inscription: "Thought taking flight and bearing light / E. Picault." Signed "E. PICAULT" in relief on the base. Foundry mark "Ledentu Frères Paris" on the base. Late 19th century, circa 1890. Dimensions: W: 46cm, D: 33cm, H: 93cm. In very good condition with a beautiful, nuanced brown patina.
