Large patinated bronze sculpture depicting a winged man seated on a cloud and raising his arm. At his feet, an open book reveals the names of great philosophers and writers such as PLATO, VIRGILE, RACINE, CORNEILLE, LAMARTINE, as well as a dedication to M. Renaudot, chief engineer of the Compagnie P.I.M. This allegorical statue features a cartouche with the inscription: "La pensée prenant son vol et portant la lumière / E. Picault". Signed "E. PICAULT" on the terrace. Foundry mark "Ledentu Frères Paris" on the base. Late 19th century, Circa: 1890 Dim: W:46cm, D:33cm, H:93cm. In very good condition with a beautiful shaded brown patina.
