Horseshoe-shaped jewelry box Madame de Sévigné (1626-1696).
A talented letter writer living at the court of Louis XIV, she was highly regarded throughout the 19th century. The crystal receptacle of the box is decorated with garlands of gilt-bronze flowers tied with ribbons. The base of the case is carved with a radiating motif. It rests on three feet decorated with foliate scrolls, terminating in stylized shells. The miniature bears the signature "Marc" (Marc-Louis Arlaud?) in the upper right corner.
