Rare and large modernist lamp in red ceramic with geometric decoration on the contours. Accolay, Burgundy. Circa 1960. Signed under the base: "Accolay". The term "poterie d'Accolay" refers to the production of a community of potters established on October 26, 1945 in the village of Accolay, in the Yonne department of Burgundy. This artisan production center was created by four former students of Alexandre Kostanda. Active from 1945 to 1983, their pottery is characterized by great technical inventiveness and extremely abundant production. The objects are characterized by varied, decorative shapes and bright colors. The community of potters exploited the proximity of the N6 motorway by taking over service stations as permanent exhibition sites on the migration route of Parisian tourists. Their exhibition buildings, inspired by the constructions of the Le Mans 24-hour race circuit, became the obligatory stopover for vacationers in transit.
