Two oil paintings on panel , "Landscapes with Cows," attributed to Jean-Michel Diebolt (1779-1824). Both paintings depict mountain landscapes featuring cows. The first painting shows a shepherd couple accompanied by cows, goats, and a dog. The man, holding a staff in one hand, holds a kid in the other, while his partner sits sidesaddle on a horse (or a donkey). The second painting shows two cows in the foreground, one of which is confronting the shepherd's dog. In the background, on the other side of the river, are a shepherd and the rest of the herd. The paintings are signed: on one, the signature "M. Diebolt" , while on the other, it has faded slightly. Both original frames date from the 19th century. Jean-Michel Diebolt (1779-1824) was a French landscape and animal painter. He studied under Suvé and Demarne. He exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1824.
Condition report : very good condition. Some wear to the gold plating on the frames.
