Large oil on canvas, "The Boat," signed Léon Hornecker. It depicts a peaceful landscape of a large, calm lake with trees on the left side. Two-thirds of the composition is devoted to the cloudy sky. Human presence is only suggested by a drifting boat with oars in the foreground and a bridge in the background. This painting gives prominence to nature and the interplay of light. The fine, delicate brushstrokes become more pronounced for the water and clouds, while the vegetation is rendered with greater detail. The canvas is dedicated in the lower left corner "to my friend R. Schuhl, [in] remembrance of friendship" and signed Léon Hornecker. The gilded and carved wooden frame is decorated with shells, cartouches, and flowers.
