An important eight-light chandelier made of translucent Murano glass inlaid with gold leaf. The chandelier is decorated with motifs of flowers, foliage, rings, and pendants of various shapes. The bowl features flowers with individual guilloché petals, and the arms echo the shape of superimposed trumpet flowers. The light fixture is finished with a large, round flower. This Venetian piece perfectly illustrates the artisanal skill of Murano glassmakers, particularly in the hand-drawn, denticulated leaves.
The tradition of Murano glass dates back to the late 13th century when Venice isolated glassmakers on the island of Murano to prevent fires. All pieces are handcrafted by master glassmakers following ancient traditions. Murano glass is among the finest glass productions in the world, particularly for its use of gold and silver flakes fused into the glass.
