A large gilt bronze valet stand resting on a tripod base composed of three chimeric feet adorned with feline heads, foliate scrolls, and clawed paws. The whole rests on a trilobed plinth decorated with a frieze of palmettes and egg-and-dart motifs, itself set upon a molded rectangular step.
The circular receptacle is highlighted by a frieze and a scalloped rim with wavy gadroons. Its removable, domed, and ribbed lid is topped with a pine cone-shaped knob.
This beautiful object illustrates the eclectic taste of the Second Empire, blending references to Greco-Roman antiquity and the Empire style
