An important Louis XV style desk, stamped Maurice Rinck, veneered in kingwood and rosewood, richly ornamented with marquetry, surmounted by a rectangular, shaped top covered in ochre leather. The leather, bordered by a frieze of scrolling foliage and fleur-de-lis, is enhanced with gilt bronze mounts featuring foliate motifs at the four corners. This flat desk, in the Rococo style, opens with three drawers with handles embellished with gilt bronze, illustrating various floral motifs. Each drawer is secured with a key lock. The whole rests on four cabriole legs, flanked by four gilt-chiseled bronze acanthus leaves and terminating in gilt bronze sabots. This magnificent Louis XV desk is representative of this great period in French furniture design. The lines vary infinitely, and the sinuous forms of the gilt bronze mounts contrast with the strictness of the preceding century. This desk was made by Maurice Rinck, son of the cabinetmaker Eugène Rinck.
Founded in 1841, the Rinck company embodies the excellence of French fine cabinetmaking. For over 150 years, five generations of master cabinetmakers and designers have reproduced the techniques of artisans from all eras. In the 1930s, Maurice Rinck recognized the importance of the Art Deco trend and infused this style into the family's creations. This is how he established the Rinck company's prestige, and the leading decorators and interior designers of the time commissioned unique pieces, which have become a true heritage.
