A Louis XVI style dressing table in wood veneer and marquetry, surmounted by a swiveling mirror framed by two gilt-bronze candelabra decorated with scrolling foliage. The kidney-shaped top, also in wood veneer, opens in the frieze to reveal three marquetry drawers. The side drawers open with bronze knob handles decorated with foliage. The central drawer is secured with a lock. The top rests on four tapered and fluted legs. The gilt-bronze frame of the kidney-shaped swiveling mirror is finished with a ribbon bow, typical of Louis XVI style furniture. The Louis XVI style abandoned the curved and original forms of the Louis XV style for a return to straight lines with light ornamentation. This period of great sobriety and naturalness is characterized by balanced and well-proportioned geometric forms. 19th century, circa 1900. Dimensions: W: 98cm, D: 54cm, H: 133cm. Very good condition. The bronzes have been regilded. Minor restoration of the marquetry on the middle drawer.
