A substantial 19th-century Egyptian Revival style center table in mahogany, mahogany veneer, and double-patinated bronze. This large table is supported by four patinated bronze claw-shaped legs with lion heads, connected by a carved and shaped stretcher. The table's apron is adorned with gilt-bronze appliqués featuring swans and cornucopias, and it opens with six drawers. Two integrated extensions add 50 cm to each side of the table when needed. A glass top covers and protects the tabletop.
Made in the second half of the 19th century, this dining table features the monumental forms and decorative motifs characteristic of the Directoire and Empire styles, which were very popular during the reign of Napoleon III. The Egyptian Revival style, which emerged after Napoleon's early campaigns, is reflected here in the ornamental motifs and the claw-like legs, essential elements of this eclectic style of the early 19th century. Circa: 1870
