A Charles X period gueridon table veneered in mottled maple burl. It rests on four columns with stretchers. The piece is decorated with gilt bronze mounts: a frieze of shells and hearts on the feet, a cascade of palmettes on the uprights, and four theatrical tragedy masks surrounded by acanthus leaves at the apron. The whole is topped with a beautiful emerald green marble.
Charles X period furniture is elegant, light, and easy to move. It generally features simple forms with softened structures compared to the Empire style. Small tables like this one are placed near various seating areas to enhance comfort. The artisans of the time were highly skilled in wood veneer techniques and chose light-colored materials to highlight the beauty of the furniture.
