inkwell and pen holder , surmounted by a bronze statuette with a brown patina representing Michelangelo's Moses
The statue of Moses, executed around 1513-1515 for the Tomb of Julius II in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, is a masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance. The Renaissance, like the Middle Ages, was a rich source of inspiration for 19th-century artists, who enthusiastically imitated or interpreted the works of past centuries.
Our inkwell features two gilt bronze cups arranged at the ends of the marble tray, and a pen holder at the front.
