A gilt and patinated bronze cup depicting a draped faun carrying a nautilus shell on his shoulders. The shell is richly decorated with vine leaves, acanthus leaves, and a satyr's head. It is surmounted by a fantastical animal. The whole rests on a stepped circular base and a plinth of veined black marble. A striking contrast exists between the gilt and patinated bronze. In very good vintage condition. After a model by Balthasar Permoser (1651-1732) and Bernhard Quippe (1662-1722). The original, made in 1707, is in the Grünes Gewölbe collection at the Dresden Palace in Dresden, Germany. 19th century, circa 1880. Dimensions: L: 15cm, D: 18cm, H: 31cm.
