A Neoclassical, Athenian-style pedestal table in richly carved giltwood, supporting a circular top of Griotte red marble veined with gray. The top extends into a molded apron bordered by a frieze of interlacing patterns and small pearls, supported by three ram's heads joined by garlands of flowers. The pedestal rests on three curved uprights ending in hoof feet, covered with foliage and connected by a plinth forming a terrace adorned with a rosette and foliate scrolls, from which rises a central column decorated with twisted fluting and acanthus leaves. With its meticulously executed classical decoration, this Napoleon III period column was undoubtedly designed to display an art object, such as a candelabra or a bronze sculpture. Napoleon III period, circa 1870. Dimensions: W: 40cm, D: 40cm, H: 115cm. In good overall condition, with re-gilding. Some wear to the gilding and a crack in the marble, which has been restored.
